Job Description Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Substance Abuse Prevention and Control Senior Health Educator – Job Description Position: Exempt Monthly Salary: $5,568 Fully Paid Medical/Dental Insurance Grant funded project through June 30, 2020 (possible extension) • THIS POSITION IS FOR THE 105/110 FREEWAY AREA (SURROUNDING CITIES ARE: COMPTON, LONG BEACH AND WATTS ) * The following provides a general description of duties and a more specific description of requirements for the Senior Health Educator. Please note that the summary of responsibilities and required abilities identified below are not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities, or requirements. The Senior Health Educator will supervise the implementation of an evidence-based curriculum at multiple school-based venues throughout Los Angeles County. There will 50 Student Wellbeing Centers at Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) or other school district sites throughout Los Angeles County. The duties of the Senior Health Educator include, but are not limited to: • Participate in planning and development, and oversee local implementation and evaluation of the Student Wellbeing Center services for the assigned schools as it relates to substance use disorder (SUD) screening and referral services, and other public health priority subjects that are risk factors for SUD, in collaboration with community based organizations and other service partners; • Supervise approximately 12 assigned health educators to ensure program is implemented as designed; • Coordinate with other locations, and Department of Public Health (DPH) and/or Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) leadership, to ensure effective and consistent implementation across all locations; • Serve as conduit between DPH/SAPC, administrators and other staff of assigned schools; and • Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications o Master’s Degree from a program of study accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health with specialization in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, or equivalent; – AND – (3) Three years year of health education experience. Desirable Qualifications o Experience implementing and conducting comprehensive adolescent health programs o Experience supervising or leading health education team(s) o Experience supervising staff of diverse backgrounds and ages o Knowledge of adolescent health and the principles of positive youth development o Experience and comfort working in a school setting or similarly political environment o Computer literate and skilled in the use of MS Windows-based programs, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) o Excellent oral and written communication skills o Able to communicate effectively about sensitive issues in English and Spanish or an alternative second language spoken by students in Los Angeles County schools
